I like Good Night. It's a nice, chilled song with smooth rhythms and a reggae feel that I enjoy. But I'd much rather talk about Bittersweet, one of my favourite Kanye tracks that I think is criminally forgotten. It's so underrated due to being a hidden track that wasn't widely released, but I enjoy it for a number of reasons. Musically I find it beautiful, with the synthy 'doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo's setting a great atmosphere. But lyrically it's even better, with some really introspective lyrics that also manage to be amusing at times. He discusses in depth the trials and tribulations of romance and some lines are absolutely poetic.
The flow is also very smooth and one of Kanye's best efforts. His emotion pours out through this song in both the music and lyrics and I strongly encourage you to give it a listen, hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I do. As for the whole album: Graduation Kanye definitely took a slightly different direction with this album from his first two. I think Graduation is a little hit and miss, but the hits aren't quite as strong as his best in LR and TCD, and the misses are worse, so I prefer those albums.
That said, Graduation has some really great tracks, my favourites probably being Good Morning and Homecoming. Also, it's hard to forget Stronger, which alongside Gold Digger is possibly the most famous Kanye West song of all time. Moreover, the different sound that Kanye goes for in Graduation could definitely be seen as a necessary change. The tracks are much bigger and more electronic with powerful beats. This makes them easier to rock out and dance along to than his previous work, definitely a good thing. Interestingly, this apparently came about because Kanye saw the reaction that big rock bands could create in stadia and wanted to do that with Rap music so went for bigger, anthem-style tracks. This is the sort of bold, impressive stuff that I love Kanye pulling off.
Lyrically, Graduation is certainly different from his earlier efforts, becasue it has more of Kanye talking about himself. In some cases, I really enjoy this side when Kanye opens up his emotions and speaks deeply, almost poetically.
In other tracks I feel Kanye strays over to the arrogant side of things (e.g. Barry Bonds) and I'm not such a fan of that. Logos: A Journal of Catholic Thought and Culture.

But the introspective lyrics that he gives us in Graduation are certainly a welcome change, and are often executed beautifully. On the whole, I personally prefer the more soul-type melodies and musical style that Kanye gave us in Late Registration and The College Dropout. But I appreciate that some variety is essential in Kanye's music and I do enjoy many of the tracks of Graduation, even if it's not my favourite.
A very solid album, with some great highs and not too many lows. I'd love to hear what other people think about what I've written here, so do let me know. See you on the next album!

I listened to Bittersweet a couple more times since finding the link, and it's definitely growing on me. I do like the lyrics - they're bittersweet in and of themselves, funny in a dark way. But Idk, the production just comes off as kind of first-drafty to me.
I want to like the flute part, but something about it sounds like a midi of a 90's video game song, lol. Maybe I just need to listen to it more? I agree with your thoughts on the album as a whole. It was an interesting evolution for Kanye, both lyrically and sonically.
He went with a more accessible sound but was still innovative about it. I can't help but wonder what direction he would've gone in after Graduation if he didn't lose his Mom. The first three albums feel like a trajectory that was going up and up and up, and then suddenly, everything crashed to the ground. So thinking about Graduation as a whole makes me sad in a way, because he was on top of the world and looking at a bright future, with no idea of what was about to happen.

But I guess we'll get into that more with 808s. This is less of a 1-10 review of the song and is more anecdotal so bear with me.
I fucking love Kanye West just like anyone else in this sub and I try to expose him to my other 3 brothers 1 older and 2 younger. I have managed to expose him in a positive light to my two younger brothers but my oldest brother has always been a hard ass about Kanye because of his supposed 'egotistical attitude.' He scoffed when I told him he was a christian and said that he is blasphemous and stuff like that. I love him and he is usually open about music but getting him to like Kanye has been a challenge. Anyway, I tried the usual start you know spaceships, all falls down, and Fucking Jesus Walks he turned off Jesus Walks for god's sake.
Anyway, I realized I have been going about this incorrectly and decided to play graduation in the car without telling him it is Kanye. I finally did it I played Good Morning, Champion, Stronger, I wonder, Good Life, Can't Tell Me Nothing, Flashing Lights Fucking everything besides you know Drunk and Hot Girls and Barry Bonds ( I love those songs btw there just not very accesible.) I finally hooked him with Homecoming since he loves coldplay and I realized how awesome Graduation is and how much of a genius Kanye is. Graduation might not be my favorite record of his but it is a great way to introduce Kanye to people even haters it is a perfect blend of pop and Kanye. Anyway, the reason why i'm posting this on the goodnight discussion is because he was floored by this song he didn't even understand how Hip-Hop could be so diverse I loved seeing his reaction to this song he loves It. So that is why I can't rate Kanye albums each one is so fucking unique there are only a few artists that can match raw experimental talent than Kanye. Good Night is an amazing ballad. The whole song but Al Be Back's short verse I love it a hood musical genius.
none. The instrumentation and Mos Def's great chorus work. Probably top 5 for me. none. Positive and uplifting.
same as 7 positive and loving one another. Underrated only because many people haven't heard it. 10/10 one of my favorites from Kanye. This daily discussion is such a gem on this subreddit, I hope it encourages more discussion and less shitposting.
Wouldn't that be a S C A R Y thought? Graduation is a super important Kanye album to me.
I had always loved it, but I remember specifically one morning - I woke up after a huge night out and I was face down in my bed, could barely lift my head off the pillow. I had just had a massive fight with my girlfriend and I whacked on Graduation and it just brought me back to life. Some people shit on Graduation a bit because it's poppy.
I don't really agree, but that's cool. Different strokes or whatever.
Graduation opening and closing songs are fantastic. Not to mention it's kinda like the last bit of the 'old kanye' Good vibes, easy to listen to, easy to show people. Champion, Everything I am, The Glory, Flashing Lights, Homecoming, Can't tell me nothing.
Fuck it's just a smooth album. With the exception of like D&HG and BB. Aside from that it's fucking sick. Anyway that was dumb, I just fucken love Graduation. Fuck it, I did it in, I'll do it in. DOUBLE DISCUSSION TIME!
Good Night. An amazing track that really should have made the album.
Hard, the entire song is filled with quotables, so I'll just say the whole song. Again, the whole song is perfect musically and lyrically.
3rd place, right before Can't Tell Me Nothing, and right after the second bonus track. Positive, for the most part.

The way I see it, the song is basically a musical way of saying 'There's nothing worse than too late.' . Hella underrated. 9.8/10 Bittersweet Poetry. Even though it's most likely a funny track, for some odd reason the damn song has me crying like a bitch. Don't ask me why, I don't know either.
Probably the beat. Rereading the lyrics, it's actually kinda funny, and I certainly enjoy the second half of the first verse onward. None, that I can see. Most definitely the beat, which I've been analyzing for the past few hours as to what in the holy name of Yeezus is making me cry.
4rd place, right after Champion. I'unno, I'd say the beat, but for a Japan exclusive it's good. Another messageless Kanye song, just him being him and talkin about some random shit. Again, hella underrated.
/10.
